Kapitel 13

1 Saul7586 war ein Jahr8141 König4427 gewesen4427; und da er zwei8147 Jahre8141 über Israel3478 regieret hatte,

2 erwählte977 er ihm dreitausend7969 Mann376 aus Israel3478. Zweitausend505 waren mit Saul7586 zu Michmas4363 und7586 auf dem Gebirge2022 Bethel und3499 eintausend mit Jonathan3129 zu Gibea1390 -Benjamin1144; das andere Volk5971 aber ließ7971 er gehen, einen jeglichen in seine Hütte168.

3 Jonathan3129 aber schlug5221 die Philister6430 in ihrem Lager, das776 zu8085 Gibea1387 war; das kam8085 vor die Philister6430. Und Saul7586 ließ die Posaune7782 blasen8628 im ganzen Lande und sagen559: Das lasset die Ebräer hören!

4 Und6430 ganz Israel3478 hörete sagen559: Saul7586 hat8085 der Philister6430 Lager geschlagen5221; denn Israel3478 stank887 vor den Philistern. Und alles Volk5333 schrie6817 Saul7586 nach310 gen Gilgal1537.

5 Da versammelten622 sich2583 die Philister6430, zu streiten3898 mit Israel3478, dreißigtausend7970 Wagen7393, sechstausend8337 Reiter6571 und8193 sonst Volk5971, so viel7230 wie Sand2344 am Rande des Meers3220, und zogen herauf5927 und lagerten sich zu Michmas4363, gegen Morgen6926 vor Beth-Aven1007.

6 Da das sahen7200 die Männer Israels3478, daß sie5971 in Nöten waren6887 (denn dem Volk5971 war bange5065), verkrochen sie sich2244 in die Höhlen und376 Klüfte4631 und Felsen2337 und Löcher6877 und Gruben953.

7 Die Ebräer aber gingen über5674 den Jordan3383 ins Land776 Gad1410 und Gilead1568. Saul7586 aber war noch zu Gilgal1537, und alles Volk5971 ward2729 hinter310 ihm zag.

8 Da harrete er3176 sieben7651 Tage3117 auf3176 die Zeit4150, von Samuel8050 bestimmt. Und da Samuel8050 nicht kam935 gen Gilgal1537, zerstreuete sich6327 das Volk5971 von ihm.

9 Da sprach559 Saul7586: Bringet mir her5066 Brandopfer5930 und Dankopfer8002! Und er opferte5927 Brandopfer5930.

10 Als er aber das Brandopfer5930 vollendet3615 hatte, siehe, da kam935 Samuel8050. Da ging5927 Saul7586 hinaus3318 ihm entgegen7125, ihn zu segnen1288.

11 Samuel8050 aber sprach559: Was hast du gemacht? Saul7586 antwortete559: Ich5310 sah7200, daß das Volk5971 sich von mir zerstreuete, und du kamest nicht zu6213 bestimmter Zeit3117, und die Philister6430 waren935 versammelt622 zu Michmas4363.

12 Da sprach559 ich: Nun werden die Philister6430 zu mir6440 herabkommen3381 gen Gilgal1537, und ich habe das Angesicht des HErrn3068 nicht erbeten2470; da wagte ich‘s und opferte5927 Brandopfer5930.

13 Samuel8050 aber sprach559 zu3559 Saul7586: Du hast töricht5528 getan und3068 nicht gehalten8104 des HErrn3068, deines Gottes430, Gebot4687, das er dir geboten6680 hat; denn er hätte dein Reich4467 bestätiget über Israel3478 für5769 und5704 für.

14 Aber nun wird dein Reich4467 nicht bestehen. Der HErr3068 hat ihm6965 einen Mann376 ersucht nach seinem Herzen3824, dem hat der HErr3068 geboten6680, Fürst5057 zu sein8104 über sein Volk5971; denn du1245 hast des HErrn3068 Gebot6680 nicht gehalten.

15 Und3967 Samuel8050 machte sich auf6965 und ging5927 von Gilgal1537 gen Gibea1390 -Benjamin1144. Aber Saul7586 zählete das Volk5971, das bei ihm war4672, bei sechshundert8337 Mann376.

16 Saul7586 aber und sein Sohn1121 Jonathan3129 und das Volk5971, das bei ihm war, blieben auf dem Hügel Benjamin1387. Die Philister6430 aber hatten4672 sich3427 gelagert2583 zu Michmas.

17 Und7843 aus3318 dem Lager4264 der Philister6430 zogen drei7969 Haufen7218, das Land776 zu verheeren. Einer259 wandte sich6437 auf7218 die Straße1870 gen Ophra6084, ins Land Sual7777;

18 der259 andere259 wandte sich6437 auf7218 die Straße1870 Beth-Horon1032; der dritte wandte sich6437 auf7218 die Straße1870, die da1366 langet an das Tal1516 Zeboim6650, an der Wüste4057.

19 Es ward4672 aber kein Schmied2796 im ganzen Lande776 Israel3478 erfunden, denn die Philister6430 gedachten, die Ebräer möchten Schwert2719 und559 Spieß2595 machen6213.

20 Und6430 mußte ganz Israel3478 hinabziehen3381 zu den Philistern, wenn jemand376 hatte3913 eine Pflugschar4282, Haue855, Beil7134 oder Sense4281 zu schärfen.

21 Und5324 die Schneiden an den Sensen6310 und Hauen4281 und Gabeln und Beilen7134 waren abgearbeitet und die Stacheln1861 stumpf worden.

22 Da nun der Streittag4421 kam, ward3117 kein Schwert2719 noch Spieß2595 funden in des ganzen Volks5971 Hand3027, das mit Saul7586 und Jonathan3129 war4672; nur Saul7586 und sein Sohn1121 hatten4672 Waffen.

23 Und der Philister6430 Lager zog heraus3318 vor Michmas4363 über.

Chapter 13

1 AND when Saul had reigned one or two years in his kingdom over Israel,

2 He then chose for himself three thousand men of Israel; two thousand were with him in Michmash and in mount Beth-el, and a thousand were with Jonathan his son in Ramtha of Benjamin; and the rest of the people he sent every man to his house.

3 And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews and all Israel hear the news

4 That Saul has smitten the garrison of the Philistines and that Israel has prevailed over the Philistines. And the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal.

5 And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, three thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude; and they came up and encamped in Michmash, east of Beth-el.

6 And when the men of Israel saw them, they were afraid; so they hid themselves in caves and in holes and in rocks and in clefts and in pits.

7 And some of the Hebrews went over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. But Saul was still in Gilgal, and all the people were with him.

8 And he waited seven days, according to the set time appointed by Samuel; but Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were deserting Saul.

9 And Saul said, Bring here a burnt offering to me, and he offered peace offerings and burnt offerings.

10 And as soon as he had finished making the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might bless him.

11 And Samuel said, What have you done? And Saul said, When I saw that the people were deserting me and that you did not come within the time appointed and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;

12 Therefore I said, The Philistines might come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not inquired of the LORD, so I ventured to offer a burnt offering.

13 And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly; for you have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which he commanded you; for now would the LORD have established your kingdom over Israel, as he had said, I will establish you for ever.

14 But now your kingdom shall not continue; for the LORD has chosen for himself a man after his own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be a ruler over his people, because you have not kept all the commandments that the LORD your God gave you.

15 And Samuel arose and went up from Gilgal to Ramtha of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.

16 And Saul and Jonathan his son dwelt in Gibeah of Benjamin; but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.

17 And raiders came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies; one went toward the way of Ophrah to attack the land of Shual;

18 And another went toward the way of Beth-hauran; and another turned toward the way of the border that looks toward the valley of Zebaon and to the wilderness.

19 Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines said, We do not want the Hebrews to make swords and spears;

20 But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines to sharpen every man his sickle and his ploughshare and his axe and his mattock.

21 And there was a broad file for the sickle and for the ploughshare and for mattocks and for the axe and to sharpen the goads.

22 So in the day of the battle, there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people who were with Saul and Jonathan; but Saul and Jonathan his son had them.

23 And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.
